Hello, my name is Ginny and I’m addicted to books

I have a problem. A serious problem. I have a book to beta, seventy books to read from this round of “I should review more books”, another one hundred give or take from my last round, two books checked out from the library, three more on reserve, and a dozen or so purchases I’ve yet to read.

And yet, when the “books to read before they hit the big screen in 2015” list came out and I saw “The DUFF” I felt the desperate urge to obtain it right now. RIGHT NOW. SO I check the New Hampshire Library Overdrive site. Searching Duff results brings up:

Now I love that series, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not what I want to read. Actually, come to think of it, I never finished that series.

Fuck.

Deciding to worry about that later (because I’m riding high on my need for The DUFF) I browse on over to Amazon hoping that it’ll be on Kindle Unlimited. This would’ve allowed me to put it out of my mind until I get my next Kindle Unlimited subscription. (Yeah, that’s right, I do that. You can unfriend me if it bothers you that much.)

Okay, yeah … that’s not helpful. Not only is it not on Kindle Unlimited, it’s not $0.99 (which would have prompted me to buy the fuck out of it) or $2.99 (which would have prompted me to purchase while grumbling) or even $4.99 (which would have prompted me to read a sample then hem and haw over it for two hours … then purchase the fuck out of it while grumbling.)

It’s $7.50 (give or take). I could get lunch today with that kind of scratch. I mean, eat today or buy a book I probably won’t read for half a year. Lunch sounds pretty good and my grumbling stomach agrees, so I end up closing the Amazon page.

Only to reopen it.

Then close it again.

Then open it again.

And then, thankfully, stop so that I can take time out and write this post.

Because I might as well face it, I’m addicted to books.

Your lights are on, but you’re not home
Your mind is not your own
Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another page is what it takes

You can’t sleep, you can’t eat
There’s no doubt, you’re in deep
Your throat is tight, you can’t breathe
Another page is all you need

Whoa, you like to think that you’re immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It’s closer to the truth to say you can’t get enough
You know you’re gonna have to face it, you’re addicted to books

You see the signs, but you can’t read
You’re running at a different speed
Your heart beats in double time
Another page and you’ll be mine, a one track mind

You can’t be saved
Oblivion is all you crave
If there’s some left for you
You don’t mind if you do

Whoa, you like to think that you’re immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It’s closer to the truth to say you can’t get enough
You know you’re gonna have to face it, you’re addicted to books

Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books

Your lights are on, but you’re not home
Your will is not your own
You’re heart sweats and teeth grind
Another page and you’ll be mine

Whoa, you like to think that you’re immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It’s closer to the truth to say you can’t get enough
You know you’re gonna have to face it, you’re addicted to books

Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books
Might as well face it, you’re addicted to books

Ginny’s note: When I went to schedule this post, I had not bought this book, opting to get lunch instead. By the time this post actually goes live, I assume I’ll have justified spending that $7.50.
